Kitchen Broadcast is a new livestream performance series taking place every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm EDT.

Our artist community has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis through the sudden loss of jobs and presenting opportunities, and we have postponed our previously scheduled Winter/Spring 2020 events. During uncertain times, our commitment to bringing artists and audiences together hasn’t changed, even if the circumstances have. Since gathering at The Kitchen is not currently possible, we have invited artists to connect from their homes to yours, through any form they see fit.

We are happy to welcome you to experience these Kitchen Broadcasts and to join the dialogue around them on our social media channels. To get announcements and updates on the series, follow us on Instagram and Facebook or sign up for our mailing list here.

Recordings of Broadcast Week 3 performances are below.

ARTIST BIOS

For the past 10 years, Kira Nova been leading workshops and teaching at many North American and European Art Academies and Art Institutions including Columbia University in New York (US), Banff Center for the Arts in Alberta (Canada), Summer Academy at Paul Klee Center in Basel (Switzerland), Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), de Appel Curatorial Program in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel (Germany), Western Front Art Center in Vancouver (Canada), and Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Since 2013, Nova has been teaching her course and working individually with art students at Malmö Art Academy/ Lunds University (Sweden).

Matt Evans is a percussionist / composer who’s been passionately listening to air conditioning units for as long as he can remember. Since moving to Brooklyn in 2012, he has maintained numerous musical projects, working in cross-disciplinary contexts, playing in bands, performing with new music ensembles, and producing performances that integrate music and physicality. As a composer, his work strives to capture the inexpressible absurdity of supermassive phenomenon (e.g. “global warming” or “the internet”) with a specific interest in the power of the human individual within these circumstances. Evans performs, records, and co-leads collaborative projects with Tigue, Bearthoven, and Private Elevators while performing and recording solo material under his own name. He has released recordings with New Amsterdam Records, NNA Tapes, Thrill Jockey, Cantaloupe Music, and Perfect Wave. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, he studied percussion at the Eastman School of Music and the Ohio State University before landing in New York.

Kitchen Broadcast is made possible with the support of the NYC COVID-19 Response and Impact Fund in The New York Community Trust; annual grants from Lambent Foundation Fund of Tides Foundation and Howard Gilman Foundation; and in part by public funds from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
