Mass of Dissolution

Artist(s): Lea Bertucci

Date: January 24, 2019-January 19, 2019

Mass of Dissolution is a new piece by Lea Bertucci, written for percussion trio Tigue and commissioned by the American Composers' Forum in 2018. The composition examines military industrial power and is conceived of as a spell or prayer against the blind violence that dominates the contemporary sociopolitical landscape. Combining extended techniques for percussion with dislocated fragments of traditional American drum corps music, this work pushes listeners to their brinks of auditory tolerance and takes an intensely industrial approach to modern percussion music.

The newly formed duo of Amirtha Kidambi (voice) and Lea Bertucci (tape/electronics) will open the evening. Called "ingeniously contemporary" by the New York Times, this project features improvisations for voice processed through idiosyncratic misuse of tape machines.
