Blondell Cummings "Relationships: Good and Not So Good" Blondell Cummings presents a new group work as part of her series exploring personal interactions. In this piece she focuses her sharp and compassionate eye on racism and the relationships between fathers and daughters. Also on the program will be her solo 3B49 and material from a new work in progress inspired by the life of Josephine Baker. November 30-December 3, 1989. 8:30 pm; $10
Ben Neill + David Wojnarowicz "In the Shadow of Forward Motion" The premiere of a performance collaboration between composer Ben Neill and artist/writer/filmmaker David Wojnarowicz. Employing the concept of speed as a metaphor for society and its collapse, the piece uses live music, video, film, dance, and performance to examine the political and poetic ramifications of a rapidly accelerating culture. With percussionist Don Yallech and choreography by Gloria McLean. December 7-10, 1989. 8:30 pm; $10
Kevin Carter + The Nowhere Men "IPSODEFACTO" Visual artist Kevin Carter teams up with the Canadian performance duo The Nowhere Men (Tom McKinnon and Paul Vandeborne) to create this new collaborative work. Spectacle performance at its most challenging and disorienting, the work employs live music from the band Reek of Success, performance, and video to examine dilemmas of identification and the mechanisms of fear in reactionary thinking. Annie Sprinkle + Emilio Cubeiro "Post-Porn Modernist" Truly a work for our times, "Post-Porn Modernist" charts writer/ performer Annie Sprinkle's personal odyssey through the worlds of art and ideology, commerce and pornography. In a series of affecting, humorous, and sometimes harrowing vignettes, Sprinkle and director Emilio Cubeiro use performance art to fight gender stereotypes and propose a model of sexual health and well being. Sarah Schulman + Bo Huston Sarah Schulman, the author of the forthcoming "People in Trouble" will be reading from new and unpublished work. Bo Huston is a challenging new voice from the San Francisco literary community whose first book, "Horse and Other Stories," will be published in the Spring by Amethyst Press. January 28: AMERICAN FESTIVAL OF MICROTONAL MUSIC, with premiere works from Claude Ballif, Pete Rose, Ryohei Hirose, Ron Kozak, and Johnny Reinhard. February 1-4: New Bands. February 8 + 9: ELLIOTT SHARP and CARBON/LEAH SINGER, "Deception." Seven musicians/vocalists and live film manipulation interact in this music theater piece. Co-produced with Roulette. February 10: GORDON MONAHAN. A return engagement of this composer's classic "Speaker Swinging" as well as a new piano work. February 11: ALVIN CURRAN performing the American premiere of his "Electric Rags I". February 15 + 16: TIM BERNE AND HERB ROBERTS, "The P.1 Orchestra." The premiere of a new large ensemble playing premiere works. February 18: The ARCADO STRING TRIO. Strong compositions and formidable musicianship highlight this new music trio. With Mark Dresser, Herb Roberts, and Mark Feldman. February 22 + 23: NIC COLLINS. Commissioned work from electronics-whiz Collins for ensemble featuring Guy Klucevsek, Soldier String Quartet, and Robert Poss. February 24-25: GEORGE LEWIS.
