Pixilation Animations with Mighty Oak

On View: October 19-November 9

The Kitchen at Westbeth (163B Bank Street, 4th Floor Loft)

Time:

Workshops will take place on Sundays October 19, October 26 & November 9 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm

The Kitchen and Mighty Oak will host stop motion animation workshops on three Sundays throughout October and November. In these workshops a professional stop motion artist from Mighty Oak animation studios will take students through the special filmmaking process of stop motion animation. Using themselves as live puppets, students will create movement-based pixilations inspired by Will Rawls' exhibition, [siccer]. The workshop will begin with a tour of Rawls’ exhibition and take place beside the installation in The Kitchen’s gallery loft space.

Workshops are 2 hours long and include a tour of the exhibition, hands-on demonstrations, and creating animations together in a group. These workshops are limited to people aged 18 and older.

ACCESS NOTES

Please Note: This program will take place in our loft that is currently installed with screens that hang from the ceiling and 2 large screens, each playing stop motion animations with a sonic element. Pixilation requires the ability to hold a stance for a prolonged period of time, as long as a few minutes. The facilitator will ask ahead of time if students are comfortable with hands-on adjustments during animating.

Entry:The workshop capacity is 10; we ask that all participants register ahead of time. There are stairs or ramp access to an open door marked with The Kitchen's name, behind which there is an elevator accessible to the public. The elevator enters directly into the loft. Seating: Benches are installed in the gallery space. Seating option available upon request.

Exits: The space can be exited via elevator or stairs that take you to the Bank street courtyard.

Restroom: There are two single restrooms onsite. Restrooms and resting spaces are gender neutral but are not ADA accessible. Restrooms each have 2 steps and no hand rail.

Photo Consent: Please note that The Kitchen will be taking photos and videos for the purpose of promoting The Kitchen. Photos and videos will only be used by The Kitchen and in The Kitchen’s official social media platforms. If you would not like your photo included, please let The Kitchen staff know on the day of the workshop.
