NIC Kay: The last gasp of the angry yt man examines the rage and resistance of white men in the face of shifting American societal norms.
The artist continues their exploration and development of the work during a two-week summer residency in Dia Chelsea’s talk space, as part of the Kitchen’s multi year partnership with Dia Art Foundation.

BIOS
NIC Kay is a performer, dancer, conceptual choreographer, and all-around artist who uses creative movement, performing-arts history, and performance-art theory to explore relationality and yearning. They are a 2024 Artist-in-Residence at the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park in Cazenovia, New York. NIC Kay’s works have been performed at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin; Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Toronto; Encuentro 2019, Mexico City; Indianapolis Museum of Art; Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; Kampnagel, Hamburg; Portland Institute of Contemporary Art, Oregon; and Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Zurich, among others. They have exhibited at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, as well as at Gallery 400 and Woman Made Gallery in Chicago. NIC Kay’s dedication to their craft is evident in their numerous artist residencies including those at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York (2018); Pioneer Works, Brooklyn (2018); Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2018–19); and Center for Book Arts, New York (2020–21). Their talent has been recognized through various fellowships including Movement Research Van Lier Artist of Color Fellowship (2017–18); Dance and Process, the Kitchen (2018); Dancing While Black, Angela’s Pulse (2018); and Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography Forward Dialogues (2018). They published their first book, Cotton Dreams, with Candor Arts in 2020. NIC Kay is a graduate of Bard College, Annandale-On-Hudson, with an MFA in sculpture.
