Painter’s Dream, 1978

$25

Painter’s Dream was Mary Overlie’s first full-length work and explored the relationship between classical dance vocabulary and the post-modern use of time and space. In her own words, Overlie “use[d] the space as a canvas,” focusing her attention on how dance occupies the performance space. Color, light, stillness, and motions were the means that Overlie utilized in investigating her surroundings, with the aim of revealing the environmental peculiarities of the performance area to the audience. Painter’s Dream was part of the ongoing series “Dancing in The Kitchen.
