Artist(s): Ann T. Greene, Fred Ho
Date: November 28, 2000-December 2, 2000
Warrior Sisters: The New Adventures of African and Asian Womyn Warriors premiered at The Kitchen in 2000. Created by Fred Ho and librettist Anne T. Greene, the feminist opera follows the story and adventures of four iconic feminist activists and warriors. Historically, each of the warrior sisters existed in differing eras and locations, yet the opera upends time and space to see Fa Mu Lan, Nana Yaa Asantewa, Sieh King King, and Assata Shakur band together to dismantle the global patriarchy. Ho was a radical musician, composer, and activist best known for his musical works and writings that combine Afro-Asian culture and communist, anti-consumer capitalist, and anti-colonial thought.
